Q & A

Return to ->Ask the Doctor->Tests and Their Results

QUESTION: Many celiacs seem to have a knowledge of their numbers associated with inflamation and SED rates. What are they talking about ???? My doctors have not mentioned these profiles, and should I be concerned about these issues?
DR. FASANO: Not really. Increase in sed rate is an unspecific marker of inflammation that is not constantly detected among celiac patients. The most important tests that need to be checked and followed over time are the specific antibody tests (i.e. anti-tissue transglutaminases).
