Royal Caribbean International

This is a copy of the letter RCI sent me in response to my question as to whether they can accommodate gluten free meals aboard their ships. The letter was dated January 10, 2005.

Good morning,

The ship handles requests for gluten-free meals all the time. There is a daily alternative menu that includes plain, roasted beef, chicken and fish, plain rice and baked potatoes. They also bake their own gluten-free breads.

I recommend you meet with the Maitre 'D to review the menus and identify those items that need to be avoided or modified, such as salads, etc.

Please send me your reservation numbers so I can let the ship know of your request.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards

In addition, the Royal Caribbean website states that while they don't have a separate GF menu, they do provide GF bread that's baked on board and the daily alternative menu includes plain grilled meats, assorted vegetables and plain white rice and plain baked potatoes. Request must be either faxed or e-mailed a minimum of 6 weeks (45 days) in advance. The name of passenger(s) requiring the meals, their individual guest reservation numbers, vessel name and voyage date must be provided. You may send a fax request to (305) 539-6018 attn: Special Meals Request - Culinary Operations. Faxed requests will not receive a response unless an e-mail address is provided.

Celiac guests may bring their own packets of salad dressings and dry, nonperishable snacks onboard.
