More Tips

We want to hear from you! Send your travel tips to: celiac@clanthompson.com. The phrase "Travel Tip" must appear in the subject line.

  1. Bring a cutting board that fits on your lap. It makes preparing your lunch a lot easier when you're in a car and it can be rinsed off at a gas station.
  2. Electric fondue pots can be used for boiling water, cooking rice, steaming vegetables or scrambling eggs.
  3. Keep a cooler in your car. Many supermarkets sell roast chicken and you can store the extra chicken in the cooler for another meal. (Make sure the chicken is gluten free!)
  4. A block of ice lasts longer than ice cubes.
  5. Bring some GF food with you if you're flying in case you miss your connecting flight -- or they forget your GF meal.
  6. If your airline doesn't provide gluten free meals, request a fruit plate. Most airlines offer it and since it contains an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables, it should be gluten free.
  7. Request an unstocked refrigerator in your hotel. Buy your own gluten free foods at the local supermarket and prepare your own meals.
  8. Ice for your cooler is available at all hotels/motels. Keep the ice in quart size zip-lock bags to keep other food in your cooler dry.
